RCM Training Courses

The Asset Partnership is pleased to offer the full range of acclaimed Aladon Reliability-centred Maintenance II (RCM II) one, two, three and ten day training courses in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.  These highly successful courses have been attended by thousands of delegates worldwide.  Attending a course is just the start. Talk to us about our ability to help and support your organisation through the challenges of implementation!

The following courses are offered.

Executive One Day Seminar on RCM

This one-day seminar is designed to introduce senior executives (chief executives, general managers and plant managers) to the realities of modern physical asset management.  In particular, it dispels many of the most widely-held misconceptions that people have about physical asset management in general and maintenance in particular.

In so doing, it equips executives at this level to make much better informed decisions about what steps should be taken to ensure that their physical assets make a truly positive contribution to the business processes of which they form part.

Three Day RCM2 Introductory Course

The 3-day RCM Introductory Training Course provides a basic introduction to the principles of RCM. The content can be readily assimilated by maintenance and operations people at all levels, and it is intended for:

  • Managers who are going to be responsible for directing the application of RCM 2
  • Review group participants
  • Auditors reviewing RCM 2 outputs.

This RCM training course is also a prerequisite for anyone who plans to attend the 10 day RCM Facilitator’s course.
The 3-Day course is offered as a public course or conducted on an in-company basis for classes of up to 16 people.

Ten Day RCM2 Facilitator Development Training Course

The Aladon Network has identified 45 distinct skills that RCM facilitators need to acquire before they can be relied upon to ensure that RCM is applied by RCM Review Groups to a standard that produces consistently safe and defensible maintenance programs.  Our facilitator competency development process uses a combination of a 10-day formal training course followed by on-site mentoring to ensure that facilitators are competent in all 45 of these skills.
The 10-day RCM2 Facilitator Training Course provides delegates with:

  • a much broader and deeper understanding of the RCM process
  • the ability to generate consensus about highly technical problem and their solutions among highly disparate groups of people
  • the opportunity to apply RCM in practice.  This opportunity takes the form of two practical exercises.  The first exercise is a highly developed “standard” case study packed with features that reinforce key points about RCM.  The second exercise is a zero-based case study in which a real item of plant is analysed from first principles.

In order to provide material for the zero-based case study, our RCM facilitator’s course is always held on-site.  Class sizes are limited to a maximum of twelve delegates.  About 25% of the time on this course is spent in lectures.  For the balance of the course, delegates take turns to act as facilitators.  Our tutors provide formal and informal feedback on their technical and group management skills throughout the course.

After the ten-day course, facilitators also need further on-site RCM mentoring support to help them develop their capability and confidence to a point where they are fully competent.  This mentoring is provided, usually on a part-time basis, over a period of two or three months.  The amount of mentoring required by each facilitator varies from person to person, but the objective always is to ensure, as far as humanly possible, that the facilitator is ultimately capable of producing safe, defensible maintenance programs.

Facilitators completing the course are able to conduct RCM analyses in their organisations using EXP Professional distributed by The Asset Partnership.

Five Day Maintenance Task Analysis Facilitator Training Course

Many organisations face resource constraints that prevent them from applying RCM 2 to all of their significant assets in a timely fashion.  Despite this, responsible asset managers must find a way to address their asset maintenance program shortcomings within a reasonable timeframe.  This has prompted the need for a complementary structured methodology that is faster and less resource intensive.  This methodology, known as Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), is coupled with selection criteria to ensure that a risk appropriate methodology is always used.  Note: MTA analysis should not be conducted in the absence of an RCM 2 program.

Where RCM 2 is a functional analysis at the system level, MTA is a failure mode analysis at the component level.  MTA also ensures that safety and hidden function risks are fully addressed.  This process allows for a faster, less resource intensive analysis that is technically sound and easily templated.  To ensure a high level of quality in the analysis Facilitators must first be trained in RCM 2 facilitation. This develops your skills as a Facilitator as well as your knowledge of RCM 2, since MTA is based on RCM 2 principles.

In this 5-day MTA Facilitator Training Course, Facilitators learn from case studies and group exercises geared to refining MTA skill sets.  Classes are limited to a maximum of twelve delegates.  Participants take turns facilitating the MTA analysis while the Practitioner provides coaching on the application of MTA principles and group management skills.
After this course, on-site MTA mentoring is provided to hone Facilitator capabilities and confidence.  Usually provided on a part-time basis over two or three months, the amount of mentoring required varies by Facilitator, but the objective is to ensure the production of a fully defensible reliability program.

This MTA training course provides delegates with:

  • A broad and deep understanding of the MTA process
  • The ability to choose where best to apply MTA and RCM2
  • The skill set required to Facilitate MTA upon completion of the required mentoring
  • Knowledge of EXP Professional software
